TRAVEL WITH ME

Field Courses, Conservation Travel, and Sea Turtle Experiences

Travel with me..

..Learn, SUPPORT & Meet My Turtles

Over the past two decades, my work with sea turtles in Costa Rica has taken many forms, including scientific research, long-term conservation projects, student mentorship, and public engagement.

The experiences I offer stem directly from that work. Some are designed to build practical skills and deepen students' and early-career conservationists' understanding of sea turtles. Others provide the opportunity to work hands-on with sea turtles through an intense, rustic, and highly rewarding volunteer setting. Another format allows you to explore Costa Rica’s ecosystems and wildlife more broadly, through the perspective of a sea turtle biologist who is equally passionate about the country’s forests, reefs, and biodiversity.

In all formats, small groups travel with me into regions of Costa Rica where sea turtles nest, feed, and migrate, while also experiencing the wider natural environments that shape these habitats. Every experience directly supports ongoing sea turtle conservation in Costa Rica.

If you would like to experience sea turtles in their natural habitats, guided by someone who has lived and worked in Costa Rica for nearly twenty years, you can choose the format that best fits your expectations.

SUN, SAND, SWEAT & SEA TURTLES - GROUP VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE

A small-group, hands-on sea turtle conservation experience on Costa Rica’s nesting beaches.

Designed for those who want to contribute meaningfully but prefer not to navigate a volunteer placement alone, this format combines real fieldwork with structured guidance throughout.

Participants join the daily work of an active grassroots sea turtle project, contributing directly through both physical effort and financial support.

SEA TURTLE FIELD COURSE

I have been offering this Sea Turtle Field Course since 2010. It combines an online lecture series with a two-week field course for future marine biology students, advanced undergraduate students, early postgraduate students, and anyone with a strong interest in sea turtle conservation.

You will build a solid theoretical foundation of sea turtle biology and ecology through recorded lectures before joining me in the field. Once in Costa Rica, you will take part in group discussions and hands-on work in a local grassroots project, from night patrols on a nesting beach to practical data collection and daily research tasks.

The course is designed for people who want structured training, real field experience, and a clear understanding of how sea turtle research and conservation work on the ground.
