EXCLUSIVE SEA TURTLE TRIP IN COSTA RICA 2026

Concierge-style group travel for German-speaking guests. This two-week journey offers a comfortable way to learn about sea turtles and explore Costa Rica’s most striking coastal places.

The trip is organised by mybackpackerguide and features Dr Christine Figgener (me :-) ) as the trip’s expert.

During our time in Costa Rica, we aim to encounter two to three sea turtle species. We may observe nesting females on quiet beaches, watch hatchlings begin their way to the sea, and see turtles feeding or mating in the water.

You have always wanted to volunteer for a sea turtle project because you love sea turtles and want to travel with purpose.

But you have not felt comfortable travelling alone to the tropical places where sea turtles live.

You are curious about a career in marine conservation, but unsure whether it is the right direction for you.

You cannot spare three months for a traditional volunteer placement.

And you want your time and money to support real grassroots conservation through hands-on work and direct financial support, not an expensive tour company that keeps most of the fees.

If one of these sounds like you, this trip is a good fit.

This small group volunteer experience in Costa Rica, with me as your experienced travel companion and sea turtle expert, offers a safe setting to learn, work, and focus on helping sea turtles. Everything we do directly supports the local grassroots project we join.

It is a clear and honest way to get hands-on experience in sea turtle research and conservation in one of the most biodiverse regions in the world.

SEA TURTLE FIELD COURSE

I have been offering this Sea Turtle Field Course since 2010. It combines an online lecture series with a two- to three-week field course for future marine biology students, advanced undergraduate students, early postgraduate students, and anyone with a strong interest in sea turtle conservation.

You will build a solid theoretical foundation of sea turtle biology and ecology through recorded lectures before joining me in the field. Once in Costa Rica, you will take part in group discussions and hands-on work in a local grassroots project, from night patrols on a nesting beach to practical data collection and daily research tasks.

The course is designed for people who want structured training, real field experience, and a clear understanding of how sea turtle research and conservation work on the ground.
